Gingerbread Men

Me and Grandma were crazy bakers today. We made gingerbread men and Skor bars. I will post the recipe of Skor bars later.

Molasses-Cookie Cutouts (gingerbread men)

You Will Need:
2 cups of flour
1/2 tsp of salt
1/2 tsp of baking soda
1 tsp of baking powder
1 tsp of ground ginger
1 tsp of ground cloves
1 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
1/2 tsp of nutmeg
1/2 cup of soft shortening
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of light molasses
1 egg yolk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Sift flour with salt, baking soda, baking powder, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

In separate bowl mix shortening, sugar, and molasses until creamy. Add egg yolk; beat well.

Blend in flour mixture.

On lightly floured surface, roll out the dough 1/4" thick.  Cut into desired shapes.

On ungreased cookie sheets, bake 8 minutes or until done. Cool.

Decorate as desired.

Tip: The trick to a good gingerbread man: DO NOT OVER COOK THEM.

Have fun decorating (and eating) your cookies. Be creative!
